If you can think it, we can build it!
What is a mobile railcar mover? What does a railcar mover do? Why do I need a railcar mover?

Ever wonder how railcars are moved and positioned on tracks? It’s done with ease using a mobile railcar mover! With the ability to go from road to rail it is the perfect piece of equipment for moving railcars around a yard and makes the task a whole lot easier.

Falcon Equipment is the official dealer of Boss Railcar Movers. The Boss RCM is designed to outperform its competitors. Looking to buy or rent a railcar mover in Canada? Get in touch with our sales team.

Why should I use a mobile railcar mover?

Prior to mobile railcar movers being introduced to the market, locomotives were doing the job. While locomotives do have their pros, there are several things that a railcar mover can do, that the locomotive cannot. Mobile railcar movers are designed to go from road to rail giving the operator greater flexibly and the ability to easily change tracks. The cost of a railcar mover is substantially lower due to being able to turn the unit off (saving fuel) and lower maintenance costs (a locomotive runs all the time when in use). The overall cost of maintenance and ownership is much lower with a railcar mover, and you do not need to be a train engineer to run one, as you do with a locomotive.

Key features of the Boss Railcar Mover:

Optimum Rail Stability

Each BOSS chassis is manufactured using only high strength steel plate (there is no concrete filler used for adding weight). The weight distribution of the unit was engineered and calculated for a well-balanced and highly stable machine. Boss offers the most stable railcar mover in the market. The Boss Railcar mover is only 1/16th to 1/8th inch off of having true 50/50 weight distribution meaning you can hookup from the rear or front of the unit making operation easier and safer for the operator.

Auxiliary Rail Pressure System

ARPS is a secondary system that activates automatically in the event of a hydraulic pump failure. This system is designed to provide high rail pressure until the operator can safely and effectively bring the machine and railcars to a stop. Without this, the unit will derail potentially causing damage to equipment and injury to the operator or those nearby.

Boss Telematics

All BOSS railcar movers are equipped with on-board telematics that provides critical machine feedback. With Boss telematics, you and your operators will know what’s going on at all times. Telematics also allow our service team and even the Boss manufacturer to diagnose issues or codes, which means less downtime for the operator.

Intelligent Rail Pressure Control

We pride ourselves in having a system that responds quickly when traversing through curves, switches, and frogs. Features such as hose burst detection are standard on all BOSS mobile railcar movers.

Independent Pivoting Rail Gear

Each BOSS is equipped with a reliable and proven independent rail gear system which allows for maximum maneuverability in the tightest of curves. Each bogie uses tandem heavy-duty 12 inch AAR steel wheels and pivots with 3 axes of rotation.

Heavy-Duty Rolling Couplers

BOSS is the only mobile railcar mover in the industry to use the standard AAR Type E coupler. Furthermore, we do not require weight transfer and offer a wide range of movement for the tightest degree of curvature. Our couplers can be positioned hydraulically and include an air-operated coupler release which makes coupling and decoupling from railcars safe and simple.

360 Degree Visibility

Safety is a top priority for Falcon Equipment & Boss. The BOSS is equipped with a state-of-the-art operator cab centered with the machine providing true 360 degrees of visibility. The cab comes with an array of features that maximize the operator efficiency while keeping safety at the forefront of the operator experience.

Engineering & Design

Boss was redesigned from the ground up by engineers and experts in the field of railcar moving. Through countless hours of research, listening to railcar mover customers and what they experienced (both good and bad) with their own units, Boss was designed with the focus of improvement from those who work on and operate railcar movers day in and day out.

Aftermarket Service & Support

At Falcon Equipment our job doesn’t stop at the sale or rental of a Boss Railcar Mover. We understand the importance of supporting our customers and ensure we work hard to keep our units up and running. Downtime is costly, we have a parts and service department to keep your equipment going and downtime to a minimum. We know our customers work hard and we want to work hard for them.
